I would say there's more to the story than just witnessing a crime. First example I can think of: there were witnesses to his witnessing, dangerous ones who are as alive as he still is.
I'm with Vinny. I once was mugged by a hoodie with a pistol in Oakland. I'll tell every detail at dinner parties to look cool and urban. I can only think of three reasons to be so vague: to sell books, to protect yourself from a boss or a politician still in power (a half century later? no way), to back up the story you told your wife at the time.
The biographer’s response is def the kind of thing that would keep me up. If for no other reason, it’s preposterous at this point to still be so vague. Whatever it was DK “witnessed” the whole thing feels like Geraldo Rivera’s coverage of the opening of Al Capone’s tomb. There’s zero chance the reveal can match the hype. So the biographer has to keep it going.
" witnessed" a crime... Sure, Deano.
He needed something to tell his wife. Twenty says there's a fifty-year-old tire salesman in that town who looks an awful lot like Deano.
I've actually seen a documentary about the bombing. Maybe this is the crime you're looking for.
what's it called? Sounds interesting
I don't recall the name. It was either on Netflix or Prime video.
